Generation Curse

Exodus 34:7 "...The Lord forgives people for evil, for sin, and for turning against him, but he does not forget to punish guilty people. He will punish not only the guilty people, but also their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren, and their great-great-grandchildren."

Numbers 14:18 "The Lord doesn't become angry quickly, but he has great love. He forgives sin and law breaking. But the Lord never forgets to punish guilty people. When parents sin, he will also punish their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren, and their great-great-grandchildren."

these are just a couple of those verses in the Bible that confirm that sins of the forefathers are passed on from one generation to the next. have you ever felt you were cursed? i know of a girl who's really attractive but she seems to have no luck on her side when it comes to men. the ones who fall for her are either committed, married or fall out of love after some time. she feels cursed. but has anyone told her that this could be a consequence of her background? a part of her heritage, a legacy left to her by her parents? her parents are separated.

God is very clear in the bible that man and wife should not separate. "So there are not two, but one. God has joined the two together, so no one should separate them." Matthew 19:6 so what happens when couples do separate, they leave a legacy of divorce to their children and their descendants.

the same goes for any other sin. no matter how big. take pregnancy out of wedlock, for example (hehe). i wouldn't be surprised if a single mom has a single mom for a mom.

but see, as much as most don't know that there is such a thing as a generation curse, most are naive to the fact that you CAN break the curse! see, it can work the other way around too.
Parents who keep their eyes from evil and their minds from impure thoughts will not only receive blessing in their own lives but also in the lives of their children. Their own past failures are less likely to be repeated in their children's lives.

Here is an outline of what parents can do to break that generation curse and pass on a legacy of godly lives to their kids:

Family iniquities, or self-will in a particular area of life, can be passed from generation to generation. How do we stop the cycle and find freedom in Christ? Here are four basic action steps...

1. Acknowledge the specific iniquity. For help in how to pray, read Daniel's prayer in Daniel 9:3-19.

2. Ask God to cleanse the iniquity in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Ask God to reclaim any ground given to Satan and tear down every stronghold.

4. Claim Psalm 103:17 that from now on, the righteousness of your family will be your heritage for your children and for future generations. Also, commit this great verse to memory. For the breaking of a curse, here is a suggested prayer you may find helpful:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I come to you desiring to be free from all curses and their results. I thank you for saving me and cleansing me of my sin. I confess that I belong to you. I now confess and repent of all my sins, known and unknown. I now confess the sins of my forefathers. In the name and through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ I break and renounce the power of every demonic curse that was passed down to me by the sins and actions of others. I now renounce, break, and loose myself and my family from all demonic subjection to any human being who has in the past or is now controlling me or my family in any way contrary to the Word and the will of God. In the name of Jesus Christ, I break the power and hold of every curse that has come to me through disobedience-mine or my forefathers. I claim release and freedom through the blood of Christ. Amen.

Legacy of the Pearl

i have been sitting here for a few minutes, thinking of a great title to this post i am about to write. i know i haven't updated my blog in weeks. no excuse there, but my granny passed away thursday morning. :( my grandmother was 98 years old (imagine that!) and although i wasn't that close to my father's mother, the past week has taught me a lot about the legacy she has left for me. no, it has nothing to do with money or riches. she has given me so much more than that.

my granny brought her whole family to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. as a young girl back in china, she came to know her Savior because her own mom became a Christian. i've always heard miracle stories about Christians in China, but never did i imagine i'd have my own "Heavenly Man" story.

my great-grandma was on her death bed. she was sick for a while and people around her thought she was already dead (well back then, they didn't have all that equipment to tell if a person is comatose or lucid). suddenly, she was seen groping for something in the air. apparently, she was having a vision or a supernatural dream of sorts... (i am telling this as this was told to me during my granny's memorial service) somehow, in her dream, my great-grandma found herself in paradise. she came to a gate and saw a man dressed in white. she asked to enter paradise, but the man refused, telling her it wasn't her time yet. my great-grandma insisted, and so instead, the man hands her this huge white pearl and says "take this and look at it everyday. you must tell everyone about it's beauty." so my great-grandma takes the pearl and runs home. on a steep hill, she tumbles and the pearl falls from her hand. so she gets on her knees and searches for it. hence, the groping action in the real world.

when she awoke, everyone asked her about the "groping" and she kept mentioning about the pearl. she even looks for it around the house. the very next day, a lady missionary knocks on their door, and gives my great-grandma a bible. this was no ordinary bible! it's cover was as white as the whitest pearl. then the missionary tells my great-grandma to "take the bible and read it everyday. you must tell everyone about it's beauty."

waaaaaaahhhh.... and so, because my great-grandma came to know Christ, she spread the good news to her daughter (my granny!) and my granny, through her faithfulness, brought my gramps and his buddhist family to know Christ as well! and the legacy lives on because now, her whole family are Christians too. my uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. me. :)

Acts 16:31 says "Believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved. You and YOUR HOUSEHOLD!" this is God's promise, and it has been fulfilled in my granny's life. now, i take the promise for myself and my family (even R's family!). all things will work for us. i know that for sure now.

Even In My Darkest Hour...

I WILL SING

Lord You seem so far away
A million miles or more it feels today
And though I haven't lost my faith
I must confess right now
That it's hard for me to pray
But I don't know what to say
And I don't know where to start
But as You give the grace
With all that's in my heart

I will sing
I will praise
Even in my darkest hour
Through the sorrow and the pain

I will sing
I will praise
Lift my hands to honor You
Because Your Word is true
I will sing

Lord it's hard for me to see
All the thoughts and plans
You have for me
But I will put my trust in You
Knowing that You died to set me free
But I don't know what to say
And I don't know where to start
But as You give grace
With all that's in my heart

I will sing
I will praise
Even in my darkest hour
Through the sorrow and the pain

I will sing
I will praise
Lift my hands to honor You
Because Your Word is true
I will sing
