#YayaDiaries | Privacy of Employers

This is not a funny post. Hehe. I am writing this post because of recent events. So excuse me while I take a break from the usual, and post this sort-of rant about my nanny and the issue of privacy.

It started a few weeks ago, upon reading Mommy Fleur's post on her in-laws almost getting victimized by a budol-budol/ dugo-dugo gang. Almost, because although the helper already had valuables with her and was about to leave, the others who saw her knew something was up, and they were able to stop the helper from leaving. Two weeks ago, I learned from another friend that her sister got duped by someone who called their house knowing full details, including the maid's full name and mobile number. It was only after discussing the whole situation with family members that they came to realize that this happened a few days after someone from the census office came to do an interview.

A week ago, upon leaving our townhouse, I chanced upon our neighbor talking to someone at the gate. The lady turned out to be someone from the census office, doing a routine interview. As I walked past, the lady told me that she would need to interview me, too. Normally, I would oblige, but after what happened to Fleur's in-laws and to J's sister, I told the lady no. She was insistent, so I said "baka dugo-dugo gang kayo ha?" She then proceeds to show me her ID and her forms.

J says the man who came to her sister's house had forms and an ID as well. He was even wearing a baranggay vest, and looked legit. And although they didn't get to verify if the man was the culprit, he was the only one who recently got the helper's new number and full name, because according to him, they needed a number in case the form wasn't filled up correctly.

Fast forward to my experience with the census lady. I told Yaya J not to give the lady any information should she come back. Please note that this is my personal preference - I am not trying to impose my decision on this matter on anyone. If you want to cooperate with whoever comes to your house to ask for any information of any kind, that is entirely up to you and your judgment call. Again, this is my preference. I am not trying to influence you to lean towards withholding information.

So anyway, the lady did come back. And again. And again. Friday morning, she came back with reinforcement. Friday evening, while working on the bread deco for a bento order, Yaya J tells me about the census people.

Y: "Bumalik ulit yung taga-Census."
K: "Ay nako, 'wag kang magbibigay ng kahit anong information. Kahit ano. Huwag."
Y: "Sabi ko nga, 'di ka magpapa-interview. E ang kulit, kaya ako nalang daw tatanungin nila."

Zip your mouth, Yaya! Please!
At that point, I couldn't help myself, and told her to stop. She volunteered information that need not be said. Why'd she have to tell them R didn't live here? If these people were part of a dugo-dugo gang, then this is their red flag: NO MALE IN THE HOUSE. Needless to say, I got pissed. She got a sermon about keeping things private.

You would think she learned her lesson.

This morning, Yaya J walked RL and I to the car. Our other neighbor was talking to some men (apparently from the electric company) by the gate, but left them to get something. As Yaya J walked past, I overheard one of the men ask her about this particular neighbor. Apparently, they had missed a payment, and these men were trying to push the fact that a notice was sent to this address. So these men were trying to get information from my nanny. They asked if the neighbor owned the house and if bills addressed to them were received. As my nanny opened her mouth to answer, I cut her off. I already heard her say that bills are received by the compound maids, and that these were given to the respective homeowners. Ang daldal talaga, I swear.

So as she walked me to the car, I gave her another lecture on privacy. We do not volunteer information. Especially when it involves strangers. Tonight, we will do PRIVACY 101 again. I don't care if she thinks I repeat myself over and over again, but we are being careful. And in this day and age, you can't be too careful with all these crimes happening left and right.

Makes me think, you know. If my nanny is more than willing to give information to strangers, I wonder what she tells the other helpers in the compound? Our Yaya J has been with us for 13 years (minus a few years when she went off to give birth to her two girls). I mean, I trust her, but man, she can be a chatterbox sometimes.

Less talk, less mistakes. No talk, no mistakes! Yaya naman!

What about your helpers? Do you have the same problem with them? Sigh.

DISCLAIMER: My personal opinion on the Census modus is just that - my opinion. I am not saying that these people are indeed criminals or part of some gang. I am merely being extra cautious. I mean, if it is easy for helpers to get NBI clearances, IDs and the like, but end up stealing, even poisoning their employers, how easy will it be for anyone else to get employed, don a uniform and present a legit ID? You can never tell if the person in front of you has an ulterior motive.

Oops, I Did It Again!

I was planning on catching up with my list of pending blog posts over the weekend. However, the nanny is on vacation and her sister, our old nanny (actually, the one who replaced our real nanny when she had her kids) is subbing for her. The catch is, she can't work without bringing her 18-month old and her 10-year old, who she claims she asked to tag along so he can watch his little brother while she works. It's funny because I haven't seen her do much aside from a little laundry at night when her two kids are asleep. She hasn't cooked us a decent meal since (it's been a week now), and can't even watch RL for a good 3 minutes when her little one cries and asks to get picked up. I don't know how she thought her 10-year old would cooperate. Every time she lets him watch his little brother, he either plays tricks on him that he cries, or he tells him his Mom has left, such that he cries even more.

I know, I know. I thought I needed a temp, and now I am thinking maybe I don't. I've been bringing RL to work since she came, because who knows what he'll do if I leave him at home? I left him once (Monday last week) and found him holed up in the maid's room, with the two boys (who were both coughing when they came). Alas, RL started coughing Monday night, so I thought I'd prevent it from getting worse. So... I've been bringing him with me everywhere ever since.

The thing is, I can't let her go just yet. My mom's helper has retired so my helper does their laundry. I was discussing this with KY the other night, and she says Mom says right now, I have no choice. Argh!

My mom was more concerned about A staying at home with the 10-year old, so she's back to staying over my mom's place since last week, and comes home only on the weekends. I miss my teddy bear. :(

And, I was really ready to blog Saturday night, but R asked to spend the day with us. Hehe, I know. That is a major roadblock. He actually spent most of the weekend with the kids. Most, not all. We went to pick up new stocks for RL's online shop (he's been selling this and that in the office, and has made enough to get himself a new toy plus some. I'm surprised R had the patience to wait while the kids and I went "shopping". God is good. :)

Basically, I did it again. Put the blog on hold, I mean. I hope I can find time to blog this week!

Later, friends!

Hello!

Why, hello there! I'm alive. In case you've been wondering. Here's a short life update, and an approximation of when to expect me back on the blog. Haha! Yes, I am on hiatus, but only for a few more days.

HOME
I am currently in the middle of cleaning the house. My nanny's kids are back (she drove her cousin-in-law away over the weekend, so I have had to open my home to her two daughters again). Yes, AGAIN! I cannot say how stressed I am with the idea, but you know how it is better to choose the lesser evil? Well, this, right now, is the lesser evil. I am choosing the two kids over hiring a new nanny I do not trust. So yes, I am praying God fixes this situation soon. Meanwhile, I have this itch to start homeschooling the girls. You know, to keep them busy so their mom gets to work.

My neighbor's son has been infected with the Dengue virus. And according to my other neighbor, a nun across the street (we live right across a home run by nuns) has it, too. So I am filled with panic and paranoia. We are cleaning house this week! I am tempted to stay home tomorrow just to clean (or maybe on Wednesday when I'm coded) and declutter.

R was home a couple of weeks ago. Yes, R. I think I made a few wrong turns there, and we both ended up sorry the visit ever happened. RL somehow thinks his dad is this angry man, so he's been refusing to talk to his dad for over a week now. Sigh.

Meanwhile, A received an award for her excellent performance in school last year. I was going to post a photo, but couldn't edit out her full name so raincheck on the picture! Hehe.

My little boy has been enjoying school so far. His teacher says he is able to make friends easily, and likes one girl in particular. Ay-yah!

He loves school! No longer a baby! :'(

imBENTO
So remember my last post? Well, I'm still at it. Blame it on my group of bentoholics. LOL! And I'm actually starting a new blog (please stay tuned) featuring just that - BENTO. I already have a new Instagram account up and running for it, actually: MOMMA_MAKES_IMBENTO.

Here are a few of my recent attempts at making Charaben/Kyaraben.

CARROT FANTASY
I was supposed to post walkthroughs two weeks ago (I've had them on draft for over a week now!) Alas, the new update meant easier Extreme levels! So yes, my walkthroughs are different from actual play now. I wonder, do you still need them? The levels aren't as hard as when the new ones first came out.

~~~
So yep, I've been pretty busy lately. But I did take one Bored Mama Day to hang out with friends down south. I wanna be a "Bored Mama". Sadly, I don't think that's ever gonna happen. LOL!
See you when I get back to the blog by the weekend!
The Curse
Remember this post? Check the date. I posted that less than a month ago. Call me psychic but...
Our nanny is freaking pregnant!
ARGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
I knew it! When I noticed her reaction to my observation on how our neighbor's nanny looked pregnant (turns out I was right and she is!), I thought of how it would be if our nanny would get pregnant, too. She's been so sensitive lately. And something about her looks different. Alas, today, I finally asked her.
I mean, I wonder when she'd tell me about it, had I not asked her today. She knows how I hate surprises. I mean, ok, I'm happy for her, and I truly appreciate how she's taken care of my kids vs. being there for her own kids (aged 8 and 13). But c'mon, she practically begged me to take her back last year because she had debts to pay. So what gives? What happened to protection?
So I asked her. Apparently, she forgot to take the pill right before she left for her day off in November. And I asked her what pill she was taking, because I don't recall seeing her take any. So she proceeds to tell me, it's a pill she takes only when she's about to do 'it'. Hello? What pill again?!
Turns out, she thinks any birth control pill will work when taken right before the act. O_o
A-ya! I think I have the 'Curse of the Pregnant Nannies'. :( Does this mean we're back to looking for a new one, because obviously this one can't stay long? A's long-time nanny has expressed her desire to take her sister's place (her sister is our current nanny). But A's nanny has young kids (you already know her story).
Why am I so lucky with nannies? (yes, that was a sarcastic Q!)
